The River House at Wasena: A Hidden Gem in the Heart of the City

Wasena has long been an overlooked neighborhood –its Main Street seen mostly as a route into or out of Downtown, or more recently, as an area with access to the popular Roanoke Greenways. Now the River House is poised to breathe new life into the neighborhood, and residents will enjoy a location like no other in the Valley.

The River House looms above the Roanoke River, overlooking the Greenway and two nearby city parks. Smith Park, a favorite of families for its extensive playground, is to the right, and it links the River House to nearby Wiley Drive, giving residents a quick, one- way route to Carilion Roanoke Memorial and South Roanoke.

Wasena Park, which includes Roanoke's Skate Park, is located to the left of the River House. It extends all the way to the Vic Thomas Memorial Bridge and Park, which links to Memorial Avenue at Black Dog Salvage. A quick stroll over Memorial Bridge takes you to bustling Grandin Village, home to the venerable Grandin Theatre, as well as a variety of unique shops and restaurants.

Take Main Street away from Downtown, (Rt. 220 North) and be at VWCC, Brandon Avenue or Raleigh Court in minutes. Towers Mall, home to the Fresh Market, Kroger and a number of restaurants, is even closer, giving River House dwellers shopping and dining options galore.

River House residents will enjoy the convenience of easy access to nearby thriving communities such as Grandin Village and South Roanoke, as well as the Carilion Medical Complex and Downtown Roanoke. Cyclists, runners and those who just want to enjoy a walk by the river will have an exciting new destination in the River House.
